White Alabama cops called out for pulling clothes off black

The progress from Western colonial global expansion, and the construction of American wealth and industry on the backs of enslaved Blacks and Native peoples, followed by the abrupt "emancipation" of the slaves and their exodus from the South to the Northern cities, has led us to our current divided society. Divided by economic inequities and unequal access to social resources, the nation lives in a media dream of social harmony, or did until YouTube set its bed on fire. Now, it is common knowledge that our current system of brutal racist policing and punitive over-incarceration serves the dual purpose of maintaining racial prejudice and the inequities it justifies. Brief yourself on this late-breaking development in American history here.

A viral video showing a black Alabama woman who was wrestled to the ground and partially stripped by two white officers in a Waffle House scuffle has a local city councilman calling for answers and an investigation.

According to WALA, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning at the restaurant located in Saraland.

The video shows one officer pulling on the woman’s arm after they were called over an argument with employees.

In the Facebook post, the woman, who was arrested, said she objected to the extra fee customers have to pay for plastic tableware, stating the last time she went to this restaurant, her plastic tableware was given to her with no extra charge.

After seeing the video, Prichard City Councilman Lorenzo Martin went to the police for answers on Sunday morning, only to be turned away.

In response Saraland Police Public Information Officer Collette Little released a statement, reading: “The Saraland Police Department is aware of the arrest at Waffle House and the accompanying video on social media. The situation is being thoroughly reviewed and is under active investigation right now. Our department strives for transparency and we encourage our community to be aware of current events. Saraland’s public safety director, Chief J. C. West, and the mayor are aware of the situation and are awaiting the results of the investigation. When the facts of the investigation are gathered, we will have a response.”

According to the report, the woman — identified by MTO News as Chekesia Clemons— posted bail at 5AM on Sunday morning.

According to Canita Adams who filmed the incident, Facebook has taken the video down but is can be viewed on Tumbler here. Warning, it is graphic.
