Dozens of armed police officers barged into an exclusive Hollywood Hills home early this morning after a frantic woman claimed armed intruders had entered the property.

The terrified woman said she locked herself in the closet until help arrived, police told MailOnline, and officers arrested three 'suspicious' men on the grounds.

But the Arrowhead Drive home, the bachelor pad Ashton Kutcher purchased after his split with Demi Moore, and its owner turned out to be the victim of an elaborate and expensive prank.

The actor, who was not home at the time of the fake invasion, reassured his fans he was OK 'Safe an[sic] sound,' he tweeted.

Help: Los Angeles police investigate a call of armed intruders entering Ashton Kutcher's home

Just after 11a.m., police officers received a teletext, a text to voice message, from an unidentified woman.

'A female called saying there were some men on the residence,' a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman told MailOnline. 'The officers arrived and detained three people.'

The spokesman declined to reveal any further information about the incident, saying that the men were being detained and had not been formally charged.

'We're still waiting for any additional information,' the spokeswoman said.

The men are believed to have been workers, reporting for duty at the property, she said.

The whole thing, however, turned out to be an elaborate prank to fool the city's emergency response teams.

But 'SWATting,' as it's called, isn't a victimless prank - those who are found to report false emergencies are typically charged with criminal offenses.

Officers believe the culprits were near the house when the prank text was made, as they knew there were three workers on the property. Kutcher was not home at the time.

None of the workers are suspected of foul play.

'It was a hoax,' an officer confirmed to TMZ. 'There's no problems at the residence. It seems to [have been] a prank call.'

Another officer said that so far, thousands of dollars have been spent on the investigation and whoever is behind the prank would be held accountable.

'We will hand it over to the District Attorney if they want to prosecute,' he said. 'If it is a hoax,

then there were thousands of dollars spent for nothing. They'll try to recover that amount back.'

Kutcher arrived in the afternoon to assess the situation, tweeting to his fans that he was not harmed.

'Safe an[sic] sound at two and a half men,' the actor shared in addition to a photograph of the TV show's set. 'Don't miss tomorrow night 8:30.'

Miley Cyrus, who is guest starring on the show and is pictured in the photograph, has also been a victim of swatting.

Kutcher purchased the $3.6million home on March 29 of this year.

The three-story home sits on 9,385 square feet of premium Los Angeles property with sweeping views of Lake Hollywood.

Designed by the Mills Studio architectural firm, the actor reportedly beat out Justin Bieber for the home.

It has numerous floor-to-ceiling windows and multiple balconies, not to mention a private movie theater, spa, massage room, wet bar and infinity pool.
