'I don't do cover-ups': President Trump during Rose Garden press conference
CNBC Television
May 22, 2019

President Donald Trump gives a press conference in the White House Rose Garden, where he addressed the ongoing investigations into his presidency and rising talk of impeachment.

Transcript

thank you very much good morning so I
came here to do a meeting on
infrastructure with Democrats not really
thinking they wanted to do
infrastructure or anything else other
than investigate and I just saw that
Nancy Pelosi just before our meeting
made a statement that we believe that
the President of the United States is
engaged in a cover-up well it turns out
I'm the most and I think most of you
would agree to this I'm the most
transparent president probably in the
history of this country we have given on
a witch-hunt or a hoax the whole thing
with Russia was a hoax as it relates to
the Trump administration and myself it
was a total horrible thing that happened
to our country it hurt us in so many
ways despite that we're setting records
with the economy with jobs with the most
employ today that we've ever had in the
history of our country we have the best
unemployment numbers that we've had in
the history of our country in some cases
51 years but generally in the history of
our country companies are moving back in
things are going well and I said let's
have the meeting on infrastructure we'll
get that done easily that's one of the
easy ones and instead of walking in
happily into a meeting I walk in to look
at people that had just said that I was
doing a cover-up I don't do cover-ups
you people know that probably better

than anybody and I was just looking at a
list of some of the things that we just
did more than 2500 subpoenas qualified
for and I let everybody talk I let the
White House Counsel speak for 30 hours
30 hours I have 19 special counsel
lawyers 40 FBI agents I said open it all
up let them have whatever they want
nearly 500
warrants think of that a search warrant
did you ever see a search warrant before
neither did I this was over 500 search
warrants and of the 19 people that were
heading up this investigation or
whatever you want to call it with Bob
Butler
they were contributors to the Democrat
Party most of them into Hillary Clinton
they hated president Trump they hated
him with a passion they went to her big
party after the election that turned out
to be awake
not a party was awake and they were very
angry these are the people that after
two years and 40 million or 35 million
dollars it'll end up being a lot more
than that by the time all the bills are
paid this is what happened no collusion
no obstruction no nothing
they issued 50 orders authorizing use of
pen registers think of that the 500
witnesses and then I have Nancy Pelosi
go out and say that the President of the
United States engaged in a cover-up now
we've had a house investigation we have
Senate investigations we have
investigations like nobody has ever had
before and there's nothing we did
nothing wrong they would have loved to
have said we colluded they would have
loved it these people were out to get us
the Republican Party and President Trump
they were out to get us this was a
one-sided horrible thing the bottom line
is they said there's no collusion no
collusion with Russia you heard so much
talk about phone calls that my son made
to me from this meeting that was set up
by GPS fusion it looks like which is the
other side for those that don't know and
for a year I heard about phone calls
went to a special number unauthorized
and it would have been my son Don
who's a good young man who's gone
through hell and they were calls that
must have been made by him before and
after the me three calls after massive
study and work they actually found who
made the calls one was a friend of ours
a real estate developer great guy most
of you know nice guy loves our country
and the other one was the head of NASCAR
two of them so of the three calls that
were so horrible that he had a meeting
and he called me and then he had the
meeting after and he made two more calls
and they were written about like this
little little lines couple of lines
nobody wanted to admit it even last
night we had a great election I went
there on Monday we had a an election for
Fred Keller it was a 50/50 shot and he
won in a landslide we went and we did a
rally hardly mentioned today and yet to
be lost it would have been the biggest
story in the country even bigger than
this witch hunt stuff that you guys keep
writing about so here's the bottom line
there was no collusion
there was no obstruction we've been
doing this since I've been president and
actually the crime was committed on the
other side we'll see how that all turns
out I hope it turns out well but to what
to my way of thinking and I know a lot
of you agree with me the crime was
committed on the other side this whole
thing was a takedown attempt at the
President of the United States and
honestly you ought to be ashamed of
yourselves for the way you report it so
dishonestly not all of you but many of
you the way you report it so I've said
from the beginning right from the
beginning that you probably can't go
down two tracks
you can go down the investigation track
and you can go down the investment track
or the track of let's get things done
for the American people I love the
American people drug prices are coming
down first time in 51 years because of
my administration but we can get them
down way lower working with the
Democrats we can solve the problem on
the border in 15 minutes if the
Democrats would give us a few votes so I
just wanted to let you know that I
walked into the room and I told Senator
Schumer speaker Pelosi I want to do
infrastructure I want to do it more than
you want to do it I'd be really good at
that that's what I do but you know what
you can't do it under these
circumstances so get these phony
investigations over with the Wall Street
Journal just wrote today just a little
while ago I saw it mr. Marlo wasn't
obstructed in any way this is Wall
Street Journal editorial today mr. Malla
wasn't obstructed in any way his copious
report copious four hundred and thirty
four pages now they want to interview
all of the same people again they want
an interview Jerry Nadler who's been an
enemy of mine for many years he fought
me in New York unsuccessfully by the way
I've had great success against Jerry but
he was representing Manhattan and he
would fight me all the time on the west
side railroads many times very
unsuccessfully he failed I come to
Washington I become president that I
said oh no I have Jerry Nadler again so
Wall Street Journal mr. Malla wasn't
obstructed in any way his copious report
was released for all to see and there
was no collusion this is the Wall Street
Journal and there was no collusion
between Russia and the Trump campaign
that's it but they want to make this a
big deal whether or not they carry
the bigeye word out I can't imagine that
but they probably would because it do
whatever they have to do I'll tell you
there's a danger here if some day a
Democrat becomes president and you have
a Republican House they could impeach
him for any reason or her any reason we
can't allow that to happen we can't
allow it to happen
so when you look at all of the
transparency when you look at all I've
done and I will tell you my lawyers say
you don't have to do this you can use
presidential privilege you don't have to
let your lawyers and all of your staff
testify you can use presidential
privilege would you recommend it well
you can be transparent or you can be
tight being if you've done nothing wrong
being transparent is better so I said I
did nothing wrong
let's be transparent so that's what you
have all of these things look at that
all of these things 500 witnesses that I
allowed to testify it's a disgrace so
when they get everything done
I'm all set - lets get infrastructure
let's get drug prices down in the
meantime we're doing tremendous work
without them we're doing tremendous
executive orders a lot of work we've had
a great success most successful economy
perhaps in our country's history we've
cut regulations at a level that nobody
else has cut them before the largest tax
cut in the history of the country so
we're doing a lot of work Steve here
because this meeting was set up a number
of days ago at 11 o'clock all of a
sudden I hear last night they're gonna
have a meeting right before this meeting
to talk about the I word the I word can
you imagine I don't speak to Russians
about campaigns when I went to Wisconsin
and Michigan and Pennsylvania I don't
say oh let's call
maybe they get it's a hoax the greatest
hoax in history yeah go ahead Thank You
mr. president do you view Congress as a
co-equal branch of government if you
respect their power of oversight I
respect the courts I respect Congress I
respect right here was where we're
standing but what they've done is abuse
this is investigation number four and
the same thing probably five and it
really started I think pretty much from
the time we came down the escalator in
Trump Tower so I say to you that we're
going to get everything done we're doing
a lot without them let them play their
games we're going to go down one track
at a time let them finish up and we'll
be all set thank you everybody

Given the risk of further restrictive trade measures, we answer investors' top questions. We expect
shares to remain choppy, with a near-term floor around $160. Our estimates are unchanged but
peer multiple contraction drives our SoTP-driven PT to $231 (from $240).
What is the latest view on iPhone demand in China? On Apple's April 30th earnings call, CEO Tim
Cook noted that the November-December period was likely to be the trough in iPhone demand in
China, following an improvement in performance during the March quarter helped by iPhone price
cuts, VAT tax rollbacks, increased financing options and better consumer confidence. Data from
push-messaging service provider Jigaung shows that the improvement in iPhone demand likely
persisted through April, where Apple gained over 175bps of Chinese smartphone installed base
share Y/Y (1).
However, the increasingly tough trade rhetoric and actions recently taken by US and
Chinese authorities make it less likely this trend will continue into May/June. Late last week,
following the Huawei blacklist, President Trump commented that "it's possible that Huawei would be
________included in a trade deal", suggesting recent actions could be bargaining chips to use in trade
negotiations that can be worked out by/around the G20 Summit in late June, but with Apple guiding
June quarter revenue down 8% Q/Q (vs. trailing 3 year seasonality of -14% Q/Q), the risk remains
that weaker near-term demand in China increases the risk of a revenue shortfall. For reference, we
model 37M iPhone shipments in the June quarter (-10% Y/Y), in-line with iPhone builds, which
implies a 5th consecutive quarter of double digit iPhone shipment declines in China. If we assume
Chinese demand significantly weakens in the last 6 weeks of the quarter and iPhone shipments
instead fall 50% Y/Y (a 10 point further deceleration from March Q declines), then we'd expect 2.3M
lower iPhone units (-6% vs. our current model), $1.6B lower revenue (-2.9%) and a $0.05 hit to EPS
(-2

5/29/2019 Opinion | Trump Hands China an Easy Win in the Trade War - The New York Times
Trump Hands China an Easy
Win in the Trade War
The presidentʼs tough rhetoric plays into Chinese economic
nationalism.
By Kevin Rudd

Mr. Rudd, a former prime minister of Australia, is the president of the Asia Society Policy
Institute.
May 29, 2019
When President Trump tweeted on May 5 that the China trade deal was off, the historical echoes
in Beijing were loud and clear. Almost exactly 100 years earlier, China’s “May Fourth Movement”
of 1919 was a direct response to the actions of President Woodrow Wilson at the end of World War
I. Wilson had promised China, an American ally, that German colonies in Shandong would be
returned to Chinese sovereignty, but instead handed them to Japan. China exploded with anti-
American, nationalist sentiment. One of the eventual consequences was the establishment of the
Chinese Communist Party, which for the last 70 years has ruled the country.
Thus, Mr. Trump has handed Xi Jinping a remarkably effective nationalist card to play at a time
when he has been under pressure at home because of a slowing economy. The Chinese media is
now full of accounts of the country’s economic resilience and appeals to patriotism, even invoking
the spirit of the Korean War, when, according to the official narrative, China was able to stare
down the vastly superior American military.
And just in case people didn’t get the point, Mr. Xi recently visited Jiangxi, the starting point of
the Long March in 1934, in which the Communist Party endured many hardships but ultimately
emerged victorious.
I can almost hear members of the Trump administration groaning. Why on earth would they need
to take into consideration events in China’s ancient past?
The answer depends on what Mr. Trump’s primary objective is. If it’s to sound tough to American
voters, he may well have a winning formula. But if it’s to bring about a substantive change in
China’s negotiating posture toward a bilateral trade agreement, one that might usher in changes
in China’s trade policy, addressing questions of forced technology transfers, intellectual property
theft, industrial subsidies, currency manipulation and a phalanx of other non-tariff barriers, I’m
not so sure.
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/29/opin ... e-war.html 1/3
5/29/2019 Opinion | Trump Hands China an Easy Win in the Trade War - The New York Times
Days after the president’s tweets, China listed three “red lines,” positions the United States had
taken in the trade talks that were unacceptable: First, that it would keep tariffs in place for a
period after the proposed trade agreement was signed. Second, that it could impose punitive
tariffs if it judged China to be in violation of the agreement, and that China would be forbidden
from retaliating with its own tariffs. Third, the ever-inflating expectations of the terms under
which Beijing would buy American goods under a proposed bilateral purchasing agreement.
These “red lines” were new. Before that, China’s negotiating team had a fully flexible remit from
the leadership. But not anymore. Now that these three lines are in the public domain, there is no
way Chinese leaders can yield on them. The leaks of large parts of the negotiating text to the
American news media has added a new level of toxicity, making it virtually impossible to return
to the existing text as a basis of negotiations. Together with recent moves against the Chinese
telecom company Huawei presumably intended to pressure Beijing further, the possibility of
negotiating a revised agreement that is more accommodating to American interests is now very
slim.
Instead, what I have seen in Beijing over the last few weeks is a country moving in exactly the
opposite direction.

More on the trade war.
Opinion | Michelle Cottle
Donald Trumpʼs Great Patriotic Wars May 26, 2019
Economic analysts, meanwhile, have been calculating the impact of a full-blown trade war,
estimating a loss of about 1.2 percentage points to Chinese G.D.P. growth. This figure is now
portrayed in the Chinese media as entirely manageable given China’s capacity to use fiscal and
monetary policy stimulus to support domestic demand and keep growth above 6 percent.
Even if a trade deal with the United States is still possible, some in the Chinese leadership are
now starting to ask, why bother? They argue that in technology, investment, foreign policy,
national security and human rights, the Trump administration has made it clear that it has
embarked on a more adversarial position toward China. So why should Beijing expend any more
political capital on a trade deal? Perhaps it’s better, in China’s view, to cut its losses now and get
ready for the next Cold War.
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/29/opin ... e-war.html 2/3
5/29/2019 Opinion | Trump Hands China an Easy Win in the Trade War - The New York Times
If that’s what the Trump administration wants, its strategy has been a great success. If not, and
the president really wants a trade deal, with reasonable decreases in the bilateral trade deficit,
and some substantive changes in Chinese economic behavior, the American negotiating strategy
requires some serious recalibration.
Of course, China’s public position is that negotiations can continue. Even within the framework of
the new “red lines,” there may still be room for a deal. China might agree to purchase more
American goods, with America yielding on the retention of tariffs, and the unilateral right to
impose tariffs later. However, the degree of difficulty in getting to an agreement has now
increased substantially.
The bottom line is that nationalism is not just a factor in Trump’s America. It’s now a big factor in
Xi Jinping’s China as well, reinforced through the prism of Chinese history. In most of its dealings
with America over the last 100 years, China has seen itself as weak. Today, in Beijing’s view,
China is weak no longer.

The Koch network is shaking up how it tries to influence Washington heading into 2020, starting with plans to spend money to reelect lawmakers from either party who back its issues and are facing primary challenges.

Once a pro-Republican electoral powerhouse, the network that was long led by Charles and David Koch has made major changes to the way it operates in recent years, focusing more on policy and philanthropy and even renaming itself Stand Together to reflect its less political tone. As part of this transition, Americans for Prosperity, the policy and political arm of the network, is retooling for the 2020 election cycle.

Some — but definitely not all — of the group’s policy plans may intrigue Democrats. For instance, one of the Koch network’s top priorities is extending protection to Dreamers; its stance on that issue has sometimes been met with pushback from its own donors. Under its new approach, the network says it will help defend incumbent lawmakers in primaries, encouraging lawmakers to be less risk-averse and work together on Koch-backed policies.

The moves are designed to enable the network to further its priorities and, in the words of a new memo, “elevate civil discourse” in Washington and elsewhere. The network will also start four new PACs focused on policy issues to reward lawmakers that are in step with Koch policy. Though the network has changed, it still has the ability to pour millions into television ads and knock on thousands of doors to help candidates, in addition to donating directly to their campaigns.

“We expect policymakers to unite people and build coalitions. We’re committed to forging a new way forward with political discourse,” said Emily Seidel, CEO of Americans for Prosperity, said in an interview. “We’re excited for how this new approach will help policymakers work together.”

The approach is a far cry from the years when the brothers helmed a constellation of groups that bolstered the anti-establishment tea party movement, earning the Koch brothers status as Republican super villains among the left and good-government reformers.

But especially since Donald Trump’s nomination as the Republican candidate during the 2016 elections — which the network did not support — the Kochs have been shifting their focus. Charles Koch’s son, Chase, who is expected to lead the network when his 83-year-old father eventually departs, is uninterested in partisan politics. And the network has, at least for now, turned away from presidential politics: The network is not spending money to help reelect Trump, who Charles Koch has publicly criticized in the past, in 2020.

The network has not said how much money it will spend to bolster its political and policy goals during the 2020 election cycle. That will depend on whether priorities outlined by the network are getting done, Seidel said.

“I would love to come back and tell you we are increasing our investment, because that means government is actually working and getting things accomplished,” Seidel said.

Network officials characterized the changes as an expansion of Americans for Prosperity and emphasized the new approach is designed to encourage bipartisanship. And Americans for Prosperity won’t set a divisive tone in the TV ads or mailers it sends about candidates either, according to the memo authored by Seidel.

“AFP and AFP Action’s advocacy efforts will lead with a positive vision and focus on the issues,” the memo says. “Going forward, we will expect the same of candidates we support politically. … If candidates engage in personal, ad hominem attacks and other divisive tactics during their election, it makes it difficult for them to work productively with others after the election.”

The network is also adding four new policy-focused PACs that will operate separately from Americans for Prosperity: Uniting for Economic Opportunity, which will focus on issues like the budget and curbing government over-regulation; Uniting for Free Expression, which focuses on free speech issues; and trade- and immigration-focused PACs called Uniting for Free Trade and Uniting for Immigration Reform.

Though some of its plans may appeal to Democrats, when it comes to the network’s long-standing desires to cut spending and slash the size of the federal government, the Koch network is unlikely to find much Democratic support. It also helped successfully push for tax reform during the early days of Trump’s presidency and has advocated for environmental deregulation that incenses the left.

Only rarely has the Koch network involved itself in primary battles in the past, and typically in extraordinary circumstances. It spent money to help then-Rep. Mike Pompeo — who represents the Koch Industries headquarters region in Wichita, Kansas — beat back a challenge from his predecessor in Congress, who tried to run for his old seat. Koch groups also spent to defeat then-Rep. Renee Ellmers in a member-vs.-member primary during the 2016 elections, citing the North Carolina congresswoman’s record on government spending as its cause.

But North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, a Democrat, was an early test case for the Koch’s bipartisan approach to election spending during the general 2018 elections: After she voted in favor of a bill relaxing some financial regulations in the Dodd-Frank law, the network ran digital advertisements in Heitkamp’s favor. It later decided to eschew supporting Heitkamp’s Republican opponent in the race, then-Rep. Kevin Cramer, saying he was insufficiently supportive of Koch priorities like free trade — saving Heitkamp from artillery in the form of what could have been millions of dollars worth of television ads and other election spending.

Asked whether she planned to seek the Koch’s endorsement in the race, which she ultimately lost to Cramer, Heitkamp told POLITICO she did not.

I spoke to my FAA in Orlando, it will take the buyer 6 months to obtain a FAR125 certificate if we do not include ours,
Darren and Rich are working on possibility of including JEGE, INC with sale of Boeing, this will be valuable to buyer and
prove to be beneficial monetarily to you if we can include the company name in the sale
. FAA informs me its taken
under into consideration on a case by case basis if they will approve another buyer to operate my FAR125 certificate. My
FAA inspector did mention that Trump did the same deal when he purchased his B757, it included the manuals and
company.

Jeffrey,
I spoke to Gary and he agrees to make a counter offer, do you agree with the following:
-Counter the offer at $2.750M
-deal to include my FAR125 certificate, along with the company name: JEGE, Inc. this provides the buyer with ease of
transition and keeps the B727 on its current FAR125, tremendous value to buyer,.
-Buyer understands purchase is "As Is" but has the opportunity to visually inspect the aircraft in Palm Bch along with my
records.

-closing to be on December 30th 2013.
-Buyer will pay round trip repositioning expense Brunswick GA to Palm Beach and return to Brunswick if buyer declines
the aircraft (fuel cost round trip $14,930.00).
-Seller will deduct the reposition expense if buyer proceeds with purchase. (fuel expense to fly B727 to Palm Beach is
$7,465.00).
is this approved?
thank you,
Larry
